The Turquoise Coast: Perth to Jurien Bay 5 Day Campervan Itinerary

Day 1: Perth to Lancelin

Distance: 130 kms
Travel time: ~2 hours

After collecting your Apollo campervan in Perth, set out on the first leg of your Perth road trip. This opening day is short enough to feel easy, but varied enough to make it clear you have left the city behind. With the Moore River estuary and the famous dunes of Lancelin on the route, the drive immediately shows off the mix of water, sand, and open coastal scenery that defines the Turquoise Coast.

Where to stop between Perth and Lancelin

Your key stop on the way north is Guilderton, a small coastal town perched at the mouth of the Moore River. It is a lovely place to break up the drive, especially if you want an easy foreshore walk or a quiet moment by the estuary before continuing. The lookout above the sandbar gives you one of the best perspectives in town, with the river, dunes, and Indian Ocean all coming together in one sweeping view. From there, continue north to Lancelin and make time for the Lancelin Sand Dunes. The dunes rise in brilliant white waves just outside town and are one of the region's most distinctive landscapes, creating a dramatic contrast to the blue water nearby.

Things to do in Lancelin

Lancelin makes a strong first overnight stop because there is plenty to do once you arrive without adding more driving. Spend the afternoon on the beach, take a wander through town, or head back toward the dunes in the softer afternoon light for photos and wide views. Back Beach is known for stronger winds and surf, while the more sheltered foreshore is better for a slower beach walk or a casual swim when conditions are calm. The town has an easy holiday feel that suits the start of this campervan itinerary, with enough going on to keep the day interesting while still feeling unhurried.

Where to stay in Lancelin

Lancelin Holiday Park is a practical and comfortable overnight stop for campervan travellers. Its powered sites and handy facilities make it easy to settle in after your first day on the road, and its location keeps you close to both the town centre and the coast. It is a simple choice that works well for an easy-going first night away.

Day 2: Lancelin to Cervantes

Distance: ~60 kms
Travel time: ~1 hour

Today is one of the lightest driving days of the trip, which leaves plenty of time to enjoy the route properly. This section of the Perth to Jurien Bay itinerary is all about the scenery between the towns, especially as you approach one of Western Australia’s best-known natural attractions. With a late start or several stops along the way, you can still arrive in Cervantes with most of the afternoon ahead of you.

Where to stop between Lancelin and Cervantes

The standout stop between Lancelin and Cervantes is Nambung National Park, home to the Pinnacles Desert. Just south of Cervantes, this landscape feels completely unlike the beaches and estuaries you have seen so far. Thousands of limestone pillars rise from the sand, creating one of the most recognisable sights on any Western Australia road trip. The Pinnacles area is very accessible for standard campervan travellers, with sealed access into the main visitor area and viewing points, although some roads within the park are unsealed. Even without doing every part of the park, it is an easy and worthwhile stop that adds something completely different to the journey.

Things to do in Cervantes

Cervantes has a relaxed fishing-town atmosphere that works beautifully in a slower Jurien Bay itinerary. Once you arrive, spend some time along the foreshore, head out to Thirsty Point for coastal views, or enjoy the town’s seafood reputation with a long lunch or early dinner. It is a peaceful place to pause for the night, and being so close to the Pinnacles means you can appreciate the contrast between the stark inland landscape and the calm coastal setting of town. It is also an easy place to unwind in your campervan, with beaches and simple walks close at hand.

Where to stay in Cervantes

RAC Cervantes Holiday Park is a reliable fit for this overnight stop. Powered campervan sites, practical facilities, and a convenient position near town make it easy to arrive, park up, and spend the rest of the day exploring on foot. It also sets up a very short drive for tomorrow’s run to Jurien Bay.

Day 3: Cervantes to Jurien Bay

Distance: ~30 kms
Travel time: ~0.5 hours

With only a very short drive ahead, day three gives you the chance to arrive in Jurien Bay early and enjoy the main destination of the trip. This is the heart of the Turquoise Coast experience, known for its clear water, marine life, and laid-back foreshore. Rather than squeezing Jurien Bay into a quick stop, this itinerary leaves enough time to slow down and actually enjoy it.

Where to stop between Cervantes and Jurien Bay

There is no need to overplan this short drive. If you want a slow morning, enjoy breakfast in Cervantes or take one last wander by the beach before heading north. Along the way, the coast reveals itself in flashes of white sand, low scrub, and bright water, so a brief roadside stop for photos is enough before continuing to Jurien Bay. This is one of those travel days where the short distance is the real luxury.

Things to do in Jurien Bay

Jurien Bay is the highlight of this Perth to Jurien Bay road trip and the place where many travellers will want to linger. If you are keen on wildlife, this is the place to book a sea lion snorkelling tour, one of the most memorable experiences on the coast. The marine park is also home to dolphins, seabirds, and seasonal whale sightings, so even time spent around the marina or foreshore can be rewarding. The town’s setting makes it easy to move between active experiences and slower ones, which is part of its appeal.

For a more relaxed afternoon, stroll part of the Turquoise Way, the long sealed coastal path that links the marina with more of the shoreline. You can stop for a swim, sit near the jetty, or enjoy a slow lunch in town before returning to the water for sunset. This balance of marine adventure and easy foreshore exploring is what makes Jurien Bay such a strong centrepiece for a campervan road trip along this coast.

Where to stay in Jurien Bay

Jurien Bay Tourist Park is an excellent overnight base and one of the most convenient caravan park options on this route. With powered sites close to the foreshore, it lets you park the campervan and explore town on foot. That makes the stay feel especially easy, whether you want an evening walk to the jetty or a quiet night back at your site after a day on the water.

Day 4: Jurien Bay to Guilderton

Distance: 139 kms
Travel time: ~1.5 hours

After a relaxed morning in Jurien Bay, begin the return journey south. Even though this is one of the longer legs of the itinerary, it still keeps well within the easy pace of the trip. The drive back along Indian Ocean Drive is scenic and straightforward, and breaking it up with another overnight stop in Guilderton means you can stretch out the return rather than rushing straight back to Perth.

Where to stop between Jurien Bay and Guilderton

Before leaving Jurien Bay, it is worth enjoying one final foreshore walk or breakfast near the water. On the drive south, you can stop briefly at a coastal lookout or pull in near Cervantes for a break if you feel like extending the day. The beauty of this stretch is that it does not need much embellishment. The open road, low coastal vegetation, and glimpses of ocean are enough to keep the journey enjoyable.

Things to do in Guilderton

Back in Guilderton, the mood shifts from open-coast adventure to a gentler estuary setting. Spend the afternoon by the Moore River, head to the lookout again in different light, or enjoy a quiet paddle if conditions suit. It is a calm and scenic place to finish your final full day, with a slower atmosphere than Jurien Bay and a strong sense of space around the river mouth. That contrast makes the return stop feel worthwhile rather than repetitive.

Where to stay in Guilderton

Guilderton Holiday Park is the clear choice for tonight. Its location near the river mouth makes it easy to enjoy the estuary without extra driving, and the powered campervan sites and shared facilities make for a comfortable final evening on the road. It also leaves an easy run back to Perth the next day.

Day 5: Guilderton to Perth

Distance: ~85 kms
Travel time: ~1.5 hours

Your last day is intentionally simple, which suits the overall pace of this Perth itinerary. Rather than trying to add one more major stop, spend the morning soaking up Guilderton’s quiet atmosphere before making the drive back to the city. It is an easy finish to a trip that focuses on manageable distances and quality time in each destination.

Where to stop between Guilderton and Perth

Before leaving, take one last stroll beside the Moore River or enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your campsite. The drive back to Perth is straightforward, so there is no need to leave in a rush. If you want to keep the holiday mood going, linger through the morning and make the most of your final coastal views before heading back toward the Apollo branch. If you didn’t stop there on the way north, take some time to explore Yanchep National Park.

Things to do in Perth

Once you return to Perth, you can either wrap up the trip with your campervan drop-off or continue your own city stay with an extra night in a holiday park nearby. After several days of estuaries, dunes, and small coastal towns, Perth provides a polished contrast with beaches, riverfront precincts, and excellent dining. It is a fitting end point for a short but rewarding Perth road trip.

Where to stay in Perth

If you are staying an extra night before returning your vehicle, choose a caravan park or holiday park within easy reach of the Apollo branch. That way, your final morning stays stress-free and you can finish the trip without worrying about a long drive across the city.
